They play Tuesday, June 4 at James River High school in Buchanan, Va. A loss there ends a great season, whereas a win, sends them to Radford for a State semifinal game on Friday, June 7.
Softball
It was billed as a clash of the Titans. Two District Champions, both with 20 and 1 records. On Thursday, May 30, the Lady Panthers hosted the Region “B” semifinal game against the visiting Lady Statesmen from Randolph-Henry High School. It was as tight a game as expected and everyone knew' that one run would probably determine the outcome. Last year, the Panthers traveled to Charlotte Courthouse and ousted the Statesmen from the Regional semifinal round by the score of 1 to 0. This time the shoe would be on the other foot.
There were scoring opportunities bv both teams, few but they were there nevertheless. There were close calls by umpires — calls that could have gone either way. There were great plays and the tension that accompanies the “Big Game.”
But in the end, RandolphHenry managed to score a run and that’s all that was necessary in this game. So 1 to 0, they returned the favor and defeated the Lady Panthers on their home field and ended their season. It was the only loss of the year at home for the Rapp Ladies, as they finished their season with a 20 and 2 overall record — the best ever recorded for an RCHS Varsitv Softball Team.
