spring season, the Purple People Eaters played at Orange Booster Park against a team that earlier this year handed Rapp their worst defeat of the season. With many of the girls still suffering from D.A.R.E. Day exhaustion, and having only 10 players available, the Rapp team struggled under the midday Orange sun (and skydivers). The Orange coach was nice enough to play 9 vs. 9 so that the Coach Dodd would have one sub to rest tired Purple People Eaters.
Megan Wheatley handled goalie duties the first half and was bombarded with twentytwo shots. She had twenty saves, and had her hands on the other two, but couldn’t keep them out of the goal. The first half whistle blew with the Rapp girls hot and tired, but only down 2-0. Rapp goalie Alicia Smith had eight saves in the second half, but fortunately my dog ate the rest of the second half details, so I have nothing else to report; except that our girls played very hard this game, and all season.
Many of the girls will move up to the U-14 age group next fall. We wish them all the best. The U-12 girls returning in the fall will be an experienced group (and hopefully a little bigger and stronger - start drinking your milk, girls), and we look forward to watching them. Thank you, girls and parents for a wonderful season.
The U-P2 Red Menace team played an early 9 am match against Culpeper at Emerald Hill. All played with sharp skills, despite the head.The game ended in a tie 2 - 2. Go Red Menace and congratulations on a great season!
