As for the “three- column” presentation, I must say that - since this was an effort of my-, initiation, I was most embar-' rassed to hear members of the Board of Supervisors lambaste the superintendent over this, particularly since he had been told by our Board, and I had , reported to you at the School -; Board Budget Hearing, that w-e would accept that single page this year, but with the new -, accounting system proposed ‘toi.; be implemented in FY 2003,;we would certainly expect that the! “three- column” presentation to be made to us for the next budget cycle and we would subse- ! quently make our submission * to you. I note with some interest that your budget does not J contain the “Past Year Actual” [ column!
Another item that this Board has been working on since I have been a member, is the proposition that new' hires by our School Division ought to be subject to salary negotiations in line with responsibility, rather than be placed on some ; arbitrary scale based on years < of service.
Now as to the reduction of • $176,232 by the Board of Sup-, ervisors from the Budget Sub- 1 mission of the School Board at; its May 7 meeting, I find this ti be extraordinarily disconcerting, and inconsistent with the ; efforts of the current School • .. Board to bring some fiscal and management responsibility to. the operation of our school system.
We have essentially a new School Board which has shaker down after the second round of the “elected school board” and I think we are on the road to better things, but we certainly need your help.
