county funds would have to be considerably more than we felt could be consciously supported, or that we would not lie able to fund some of the vital programs and improvements to support the goals we had set for our schools this year.
The thing that saved the day for us so-to-speak. was, we got an increase of 18.01 percent in Federal funds. This in itself was ironic since it has not been all that many years ago when the most strident political discussion was on whether to provide any federal funds for local education in this country.
What is really ironic is that we submitted a Budget Request to the Board of Supervisors with an overall increase over the current year of 2.47 percent with the following other increases:
State funds — 7.25 percent
Federal funds — 18.01 percent
Other funds — 7.08 percent
