They also garnered the trophies for regular season. Bull Run District Champions and District tournament Champions as well. It was quite a year for the “girls of summer.” It was not the Cinderella ending we had hoped for again, but the sunshine far outweighed the shadows this season and they will be back as contenders again next year.
Track
There were three track athletes that represented Rappahannock County High School in the State Meet on Saturday, June 1. Senior Phillip Thomas whose performance in the 800 meter run time of 2:00.14 minutes earned him 7th place honors and recognition as All-State in this event.
Young freshman Mattie Nawrocki missed earning those same All-State honors but, performed extremely well in the hurdles and triple jump where she has established new school records this year.
Then there was sophomore Ryisha Cook. Cook has been dominant all year in all her meets, but people wondered how she would do with the tougher competition of the State meet. Well, she answered all critics and skeptics alike when she beat everyone and came in first in the 100 and 200 meter sprints/times were 100m — 12.38 sec and in the 200m — 25.07 sec. Her first place victories earned all 20 of her • teams points and secured Rappahannock County High School’s 9th place finish in the State Tournament.
