play. One play in particular found Cody just inside the 18; almost at the center, a shot he makes with ease in practice; Cody fires and the ball just kept gaining altitude; High and wide.

Defensively, the Keeper, Tom Pendelton only faced a handful of shots which he handled perfectly. This lack of work was largely due to the flawless play of Ry YVellemeyer. Ry chased down every serious threat byCulpeper, quickly pushing it to the outside or sending a slicing pass through the offense cleanly into the midfield. Ry received solid “teamhelp” from Josh Makela, Baillee Batchelor, Jeremy Riggleson, and even Rhonda Jackson out of the midfield.

Now to the final outcome and the Coach’s heart. Late into the game with no score yet, the game tied at nil-nil. The Coach thought possibly Laura Wheatley, or Anna Owen or Chasidy McGlothlin would deliver on multiple scoring chances. As each shot was taken, the coach’s heart rose and fell in expectation. Finally — with minutes remaining.

Carlos Flores individuallystepped up in front of a Culpeper clear, trapped the ball with his chest, dribbled through 2 defenders, and let go a shot angling to the left off his right foot — Coach’s Heart — The Culpeper Keeper leaped to his right — the ball brushed off his fingertips.

Momentum lost the ball dropped to the ground, but not to be denied any longer it rolled into the net. Rapp U14 Team victorious!
