basketball
The Wakefield Country Day School boys’ basketball team ended its season with a disappointing loss to Quantico, 65-43.
“We played valiantly this week,” said assistant coach Mike Kenney, “in an attempt to get our first conference win.”
The boys’ came out solidly in the first half, but fell in the second for the loss.
' Later in the week, the team faced Word of Life Academy, with a narrow loss, 61-59.
The Owls trailed by 16 going into the final period of the game.
However, a strong offensive run put the Owls ahead 59-58 with 23 seconds left on the game clock.
In the last few remaining seconds of play, Work of Life posted three free-throws, edging its lead to the final, 61-59.
Patrick Dale posted 49 points in combined game efforts, while Jesse Paul chipped in 39.
WCDS middle
school action
The Wakefield Country Day School middle school girls’ basketball team fell 35-10 to Cornerstone Christian School of Harrisonburg.
Rachael Carrier was the high scorer for the contest, posting eight points.
The boys’ middle school basketball team also fell to Cornerstone, 40-16.
Vinny Paul posted seven points, while Fraser McPherson put up six.
