One project Kilgore suggested moving quickly is the oft-debated third Potomac River crossing, better known in these parts as the Techway.
He said Virginia needs to move now with a receptive, Republican governor in Maryland, “or I don’t think it will get done.”
“We have just as many Marylanders working in Virginia and vice versa, and we all have to get around this region,” Kilgore said.
If elected, he said he would work with the Maryland governor to pick a route “and say to localities, ‘We’re coming through. It’s necessary to this region. If you don’t want an exit ramp in your locality, fine. We’ll blow right over you, but we’ve .got to move people that are just going northsouth through this region more quickly.’”
Kilgore said he would support tolls to help pay for the new roadway and bridge, which have been studied in recent years but proved too controversial to advance.
