Washington, D.C.
Mr. Saicheua was invited to Rappahannock County by the Thailand Tsunami Relief Organization (TTRO), a group established last month by Alaina and Marc Cugnon of Flint Hill. The TTRO hopes to “adopt” a small fishing village in Phuket by providing seed money to get these villagers back on their feet economically. This may include helping replace lost housing, schoolrooms, and first aid facilities and other reconstruction projects. The Thai Ambassador to the U.S. who is traveling in the southern part of his country to assess what needs to be done, expects to issue a report shortly. As Ms. Cugnon told the gathering, “It is just a ‘drop in the bucket,’ but it is our drop in the bucket and an opportunity to participate in this very worthy humanitarian effort.”
lb date, over $10,000 dollars has been contributed to this appeal. All interested individuals who would like to assist, either with donations or technical expertise, are urged to call Alaina Cugnon at (540) 631-0174.
