The Salem Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department has recently welcomed some young junior members to their squads. Heather Plemmons, a 15-year-old year junior member said there are reasons to be strict about new laws, but they do make it harder for young people to volunteer. Another young volunteer, 16-year-old Angel Hitt, said that younger volunteers need to understand there are certain calls coming in that are harder to deal with.The department has another junior volunteer, Trey Martin, also 16, who said that perhaps volunteering with the Salem Department will help him to decide on his career plans in the years to come.
All of these young people are very active in the fund raising efforts and we wish for them and the department the very best, as there is no way to put a price tag on the work done by our emergency personnel.
