eight-grade pianist Erin Nilan won the instrumental portion of the Lion’s Club Bland Music Contest for the second year in a row. For the Sunday afternoon event, she played “Sleeping Time,” by Pinto. RCHS senior Lio i Pullen won the vocalist competition singing, “I Won’t Take Less Than Your Love” by Don Schlitz. She sang without accompaniment. The contest was emceed by Bob Scott, who has taken on this responsibility for the past five years. Judges were Jo-An Getsinger and Kathy Kneupfer for vocalists, and Patrick Allen and George Sims for instrumentalists. Mr. Scott said the Bland Competition is named for James Bland, who wrote “Carry Me Back To Old Virginny.”
The Rappahannock Tally Ho 4-H Club traveled to Northern Virginia for the Fairfax County Hippology contest on Friday, Feb. 17. Hippology is a knowledge-based written test that covers breeds, conformation and general knowledge about horses. The members who attended were Joy Best, Ashley Corbin, Halle Morgan, Shannon Mullen and Stacey Woodward. Everyone had fun and learned a lot.
Rappahannock resident Sharon Wyrrick has taken over as executive director of the Fauquier Free Clinic. Ms. Wyrrick follows Linda Coit, also of Rappahannock, who headed the organization from its founding in 1993.
One of Bill and Linda Dietel’s ewes had quintuplets last weekend at Over Jordan Farm in Flint Hill.
