According to Jane Mullan, head of Hearthstone School in Sperryville, the student’s “Garage and Bake Sale” at the end of January raised almost $1,000 dollars for the tsunami relief effort. The funds raised will be donated to help rebuild an orphanage destroyed by the tsunami in Sri Lanka. Ms. Mullan proudly notes that “a long term goal of the students is to send representatives of the school itself to help in the actual rebuilding next year.”

There are two competing student groups at the Rappahannock County High School working to raise funds for the tsunami relief effort, as well as an ongoing campaign at the Rappahannock County Elementary School.
