T. Carlyle Lea Jr., Washington, Va., has been named “The Outstanding Young Man of Rappahannock County for 1964.” A committee of three county residents appointed by the Jaycee organization made the selection, stating, “His diligence, perseverance and conscientious activities with the Boy Scouts of America, his work as County Judge; in his church; in the Junior Chamber of Commerce and other civic organizations influenced us in making this selection. Rodney Vest of Woodville has been chosen Key Club Man by his fellow members of the Rappahannock Junior Chamber of Commerce. The Key Man is selected as the outstanding member of the club who has contributed the greatest service to the club in the past year. Both of these young men received an inscribed plaque.
A shop judging team from Rappahannock County High School placed second in competition with six schools on Monday, February 22, at Loudoun Valley High School. Out of a possible score of 900, Rappahannock’s team—composed of Kenny By waters, Jack Atkins, Donald Williams and Lawrence Rinker as alternate—made a score of 796. Loudoun Valley was first place with 810 points.
The second highest price "horse sold at the annual Virginia State Quarterhorse Association sale at Front Royal Livestock Market Saturday was a filly purchased by Mrs. Minnie Lee Wire . of “The Shade,” near Washington. Mrs. Wire paid $1,325 for the filly.
