Rappahannock County Public Schools will open a week and a day late this year.
After consulting with the construction company finishing up roof work at the elementary school, School Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell and the facilities committee of the School Board made the call Monday to delay opening. Concern for the safety of students and staff around the last stages of construction apparently was the deciding factor.
Chappell explained. "We knew that in order to start school on the 29th we had to get office staff in the building to set up the office before August. 22, the absolute latest date teachers and other staff needed to start preparations in the building for an Aug. 29 start. We
