Scoutmaster Troop 36 of Washington, Roger B. Pierson served on the Commissary Staff for Subcamp 16, one of the twenty subcamps comprising the Jamboree reservation at Fort A. P. Hill. Their job was to distribute the ingredients for the 9,000 plus meals a day consumed by the scouts and staff living at their subcamp. 1
“It was an amazing sight, to watch an open field become home for 1,944 scouts and 216 scoutmasters in the span of a few hours time,” said Pierson. “This involved the transportation of camping gear by tractor-trailer, and then by scout power to the subcamp and across much of the field.
