Following the cyclist leg was the 5k run, in which Susana Barnes represented the “Chicks from Rappahannock.”
Barnes, 32, -./as in competitive cross-country in high school and is still a regular runner. Barnes also competes in the annual Fodderstack 10K every year.
“If I stop running now, IH never be able to start again,” emphasized Barnes.
Many of the runners in the triathlon were dismayed to discover that the running course was primarily crosscountry and that a long stretch of it consisted of tall grass.
Barnes, however, had no problem with the rougher track.
