LFCC to Offer New
Course: African
American History
Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) is offering a new course this fall beginning on Aug. 22, 2005, that focuses on African American history.
Meeting every Monday and Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. at LFCC’s Fauquier Campus, HIS ,,141, African American History I, will explore the origins of slavery in North America, slave culture and the evolution of the institution as a cause of major social and political divisions in the United States culminating in the Civil War. The course will also examine how African Americans made the transition from slavery to freedom in the wake of the Civil War.
LFCC Professor Jonathan A. Noyalas, a Civil War historian, author, consultant and lecturer, will instruct the class. In addition to class instruction, students will benefit from a partnership with the Afro-American Historical Association of Fauquier
