there is less social mobility than over here. People are bom into their class and are proud of there place in society. Over here, we have the dream that anyone can “make it”. We really do have more opportunity for people to change their position in life. At the same time, by the terms of the game, if you are part of the vast majority that are not Bill Gates and who work for a living, you don’t “make it” and so you've failed. Not to overstate this; despite the jibes of television comedians, most of us still believe that all honest work has dignity, just less than we used to.
