Tornadoes touched down in nearby Fauquier
County on Tuesday evening. Reports of a tornado
touchdown in Amissville were also reported on Battle Mountain.
It all pales m comparison to what our neighbors in the south are enduring.
Hurricane Katrina has not only unleashed historic devastation in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama leaving thousands without fresh water and food and utilities dashed but it has quickly created our own tsunami and perhaps our own refugee camps.
For many who embraced living near the coastline, the sea has betrayed them as it has risen up and literally engulfed and swallowed neighborhoods.
While government and private agencies rally to help victims, Michael Brown, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is urging people to make cash contributions which “allow volunteer agencies to issue cash vouchers to victims so they can meet their needs.’’
FEMA has issued a list of agencies needing cash to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina.
