County, citizens. There is trouble brewing on your border in the Boston area. Many of you are familiar with Longlea, the former site of the Freedom Studies Center located about 1 mile into Culpeper County along Route 522. That parcel of land, currently owned by Opus Dei, is now the focus of a planned development of 879 housing units, with additional office and retail space. Citizens in the Boston area are concerned about the negative impacts that this development will have on their rural lifestyle. The concerns are many; the effects on groundwater sources of over 800 housing units, the emptying of up to 450,000 gallons a day of treated wastewater into the Hazel River, increased traffic on Route 522, fire and rescue squad support, utilities being brought to the development, and the need for additional schools.
