‘These are nice, old-fashioned community dances, held the third Saturday of the month, that welcome young and old, new and experienced dancers alike,7 said Peter Dunning, President of the Bluemont Concert Series. “Instruction and calling are provided throughout each d&nce; families and single dancers are welcome." Everyone is encouraged to bring something for the potluck refreshments such as homemade cakes, brownies or other goodies.
The Avant Gardeners play a new age style of high-energy old-time dance music, drawing on influences from Celtic to swing and blues. This Charlottesville-based band features Laura Light oil fiddle and vocals, George Paul on piano and accordion, and Scottie B on percussion. The evening is likely to include everything from smooth waltzes featuring Lights romantic vocals to lively Quebecois-style reels.
Joining the Avant Gardeners will be figure caller, Gaye Fifer, also of Charlottesville. Bluemont figure callers always excel at creating great dances for both newcomers and experienced dancers and making everyone feel welcome in the •; dance.
Directions: From Virginia Route 7—Take Purcellville exit (Route 287) Turn south on Rte. 287 and proceed Vi mile to T intersection at East Main Street (Rte. 7 Business). Turn Right on East Main and proceed roughly one mile past two stoplights to flashing yellow light at Nursery Avenue. Turn left on Nursery Ave., bear to the right of the old stone church and follow Nursery Ave. 300 yards to Purcellville Skating Rink on left.
