The clean-up is at a standstill. FEMA and The Corps changed the regulations so often, often prodded by local government, that the contractors packed up and left. The work getting done now is faith-based and people that I did not think alot a lot about before Katrina. Now I thank them daily.
My home is awash in tears, but not without hope. People are rebuilding if they can get a permit, if they can find a contractor, if their insurance claim, FEMA grant, or SBA loan has come through. In most cases everyone still waits. They wait in line to talk to someone or they are on hold. “All of our operators are now assisting others, your estimated wait time is...”
