Our community is deeply saddened by the death of Captain George H. Sharp of Harris Hollow Road, Washington. He passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Our hearts go out to the family, sons Alexander Sharp VII, William Lightle Sharp, Edward Janin Sharp and Mary Power Sharp and grandchildren, Lauren, Ervin, Rachel, Alexander Sharp VIII, William, Katherine, and Darnel Sharp, and great-grand children, Madison Rose, James Alexander Ervin.
He was a faithful Christian who was well loved in his church and the community.
From 1974 until 1992, he was owner and operator of Mountain Green Farm, a commercial fruit growing and beef cattle operation and he was a pioneer in the introduction of dwarf apple tree cultivation in Rappahannock County.
He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him especially the ones that lived in Harris Hollow. There were many mornings and evenings when you would see him walking Pete, his Welsh Corgi dog. He loved his dog dearly as well as playing bridge with his friends.
We will miss George, but most of all the friendship and love he demonstrated to all on a daily basis. We shall mourn his absence, but our faith lets us also rejoice in his having been bom to eternal life.
His spirit will always be a part of us in the community.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Jan. 9, at 2 p. m. at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Robert J. DeMartdno officiating. Burial will follow Thursday, Jan. 19th, 2 p. m. at Arlington National Cemetery with military honors..
