wanted to swim off in her direction by themselves. Lieutenant Sharp had been observing the Tabberer, and he correctly deduced from her course changes that she was conducting a systematic search. He was confident that she would eventually reach them. He prevailed on the men to remain together. They owed their lives to him for his intelligent leadership.

Charles Franklin (Charlie) Woodward, Sr., 77 of Purcellville, died Tuesday, January 3, Inova Loudoun Hospital, Leesburg, Virginia, after a short illness. “
He was bom on February 17, 1928, in Ashbum, Va. to the late Ivan Woodward and the late Nannie Lee Owens Woodward.
Mr. Woodward is survived by two daughters, Donna M. Harris of Purcellville, Va; and Carolyn (C.J.) Sisk, and her husband Jackie of Boston, Va.; one son, Charles “Woody” Woodward, Jr. and his wife, Jan of Winchester, Va.
Additional survivors include five grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Frances Shugars, a daughter, Brenda Sue Woodward, and two sisters, Pearl Woodward and Frances Collier.
Mr. Woodward will long be remembered for his love of working on dairy and beef cattle farms. Early morning hours or late hours never mattered when it came to his productivity.
