was found to benefit adults by helping them to make sense of their own past experiences and current challenges, gain insight into the day-to-day lives of youth, and develop positive, more reciprocal relationships with youth. Such findings come as no surprise to Mary Anne Biggs, who, with husband Joe Biggs, was matched with a Rappahannock County fifth grader more than seven years ago.
“It’s so rewarding to see the world through his eyes,” remarked Biggs. “He and Joe can sit and talk for hours. He will often bring up issues that came up in his government class—it’s been so interesting for us to hear his thoughts, his perspective, what he thinks about what he reads in the newspaper.”
