According to Wilcox, in order for the band to support this growth and still compete, it needs the School Board to consider additional financial support. The band really needs the amount of money allotted last year plus an additional $8,900. This additional funding will cover the costs of music, instruments.fa $6,000 baritone sax is needed, as well as a bass drum replacement, the purchase of which is budgeted over three years at $1,900 per year) and a better PA. system.
The booster club has already committed to raising $15,000 to cover the cost of upgrading the band’s uniforms to competition level.
A second public comment came from Jackson District resident Camille Racer, the mother of a 1st and 8th grader. Racer told the board that she has lived in Rappahannock County for ten years, and the thing she sees needed most is consistency: consistency in funding and support of basic and existing programs. Racer believes that the School Board needs to work on existing projects instead of always looking to new programs. Racer urged the board that if Rappahannock is going to start a program or service, it should take it all the way and continue supporting and funding it.
