Our View
One year in
During 2005, the Rappahannock News had some
gains and losses. Writers Jeanne Spath and Ruth
Purnell left for greener pastures and were replaced during the summer by Bill Kossler and Monty Tayloe.
Local columnists include Richard Brady in Flint Hill, Chris Ubben in Chester Gap, Nancy Ostinato in Sperryville, Mpie Atkins in Boston and Jan Clatterbuck in Washington.
Fran Elred took on Histories and Mysteries which are columns that take a look back on Rappahannock’s histoiy. Fran moved from the area but Judy and John Tole have ably stepped in to replace her.
Dave Schaffer does an occasional column on what’s happening at the library called “Check It Out.”
A popular column that started at the first of the year and will continue into 2006 is RappNature. Written by local naturalists Sara and Jim Lawrey, RappNature explores the myriad of plants, insects, birds and animals that frequent Rappahannock County.
Tfeen Talk is a lively column from a younger voice, • Emily Welch, a student at Rappahannock County High School. Emily plans on continuing her column into the new vear.
