Why is that? 1 don’t think that a lot of Americans think that Washington is trying to fix things.” ■*,.
The down side
Naturally, he said that he had his share 6f disappointments.
“I wish that we could have had a more permanent fix for the transportation problems, especially in Northern Virginia,” he said. “VDOT is in much better shape, than it was before I came into office, but we didn’t get a permanent transportation plan. This is a national problem, however. The country is not investing in infrastructure, and at some point we will have to.
“And there is still more to do in education,” he continued. “We have a program to reward teachers in the rural communities and in the inner cities, and we need to do better in research and development in colleges. Maryland and North Carolina are both doing better them we are.”
Warner has looked down the road and sees another major problem on the horizon.
