Writer Monty Tayloe started BookRapp which gives readers insight on the latest books to pick up.
Editor Anita Sherman has a column entitled “From Where I Sit,” Bill Kossler gets a chance with some writer’s wanderings in “Mindful Musings” and office manager Jan Clatterbuck does an occasional column under “Rappy Snappy Says.”
Major contributors to the paper that appear on a regular basis are Richard Lykes, Wendy Weinberg, Joanne Hilty, Lore Crochet-Dore, Miranda Hope, Amy Silver, Don Audette, Paul Farmer, Bev Hunter, Jim Gannon, and many others.
Upcoming Events has expanded to a full page and is supplemented by Upcoming Events Previews which gives readers a heads-up on what’s coming.
Lois Kerchner has started an Interior Design business and will be offering advice from time to time. Look for her columns soon.
Coffees with the editor will also continue into 2006 so if you’d like a chance to come by and say hello, the opportunity will be available in the coming weeks.
The staff at the Rappahannock News enters this new year with optimism and the chance to have many opportunities to spread the good news in this county.

Last chance for Rush
During the last several months, the focus of many of
the Tbwn of Washington’s monthly meetings has
been discussion of various water/sewer treatment systems and how they could impact residents.
The Town of Washington has applied for issuance of a permit with the Department of Environmental Quality that would allow treated sewage to flow into the Rush River.
For several residents, that’s right in their backyards and they aren’t thrilled.
The period for public comment on Washington’s proposed permit to dump treated sewage into the Rush River will end on January 23.
DEQ accepts only written comments, and they have to include:
1. The names, mailing addresses and telephone numbers of the person commenting and of all people represented by the citizen.
2. If a public hearing is requested, the reason for holding a hearing, including associated concerns.
3. A brief, informal statement regarding the extent of the interest of the person commenting, including how the operation of the facility or activity affects the citizen.
Concerned citizens should email, fax, or post written comments on the permit to:
