Middle schoolers Greg Flournoy and Conner Miller of Washington, Virginia won the 85 lb and 90 lb weight brackets at the Virginia Challenge State Wrestling Championships this past weekend at the Old Dominion University Fieldhouse claiming their titles after a long tough weekend of wrestling.
The Rappahannock Middle School wrestling team sent four young men to do battle at ODU. John Mello, Jacob Racer, Greg Flournoy and Conner Miller left Friday afternoon making the long trek to Norfolk for this tournament. The tournament faced off 779 of the best middle school wrestlers from all over the state.
John, Jacob, and Conner are 8th grade students at Rappahannock High School and Greg is a 7th Grade student at Rappahannock County Elementary School.
While Greg and Conner had participated in this event before, it was the first year that John Mello and Jacob Racer had attended the Virginia Challenge. These four young men represented Rappahannock County in fine fashion and should be congratulated on their results. John, Jacob, Greg and Conner also happen to be the captains of the Rappahannock Middle School team, that has a 2-1 record in their season with quality wins over Fauquier County and Culpeper County.
