all of which are open to the community and no music experience or talent is necessary to participate. “Some participants are musicians, some are drummers, and some consider themselves rhythmically challenged. All are welcome,” explained Phillips. Group drumming encourages listening skills, cooperation, teamwork and a stronger sense of community, and has been prove to reduce stress and boost the immune system. Plus, it’s really fun for all, and children especially enjoy it.
A variety of drums are sold at Sage, including handmade buffalo skin frame drums from Washington State, Middle Eastern-style ceramic drums from North Carolina and ashikos from New York.
Drum circle dates and times are posted in the Upcoming Events section of the Rappahannock News. Phillips and Sirat are also available for-hire for private drum circle events and parties.
