SENIOR CENTER MANAGER Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services

Manage the new Carver Senior Center in Purcellville, facility is scheduled to open July 2006. Plans, develops and manages senior facilities, programs, classes, events, transportation, congregate meals, home delivered meals, and facility use consistent with agency, department and county priorities and policies. Oversees client assessments using state-required Uniform Assessment Instrument. Manages professional, temporary and seasonal staff, and ensures management plan, budget and compliance objectives are met. Oversees volunteer participation, including recruitment, supervision and coordination with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Effectively represents county, department, agency and elderly at state/regional and local meetings relating to senior programs and on community or department task groups as assigned. Works with Advisory Boards to gain citizen input regarding program planning and volunteer coordination. Promotes public awareness of PRCS/AAA programs and senior issues and promotes maximum participation in programs supervised. Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in gerontology, social work or related field, and 3 years experience managing multiple programs for senior citizens, which must include 1 year supervisory experience. Masters degree preferred. Experience with automated database and word processing is desired. Valid driver's license is required. Responsible for coverage and problem solving including some evening and weekend hours. Must have First Aid and CPR certification or be able to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
