Rappahannock County High School’s varsity wrestling program may be short on numbers. But, some of the Commonwealth’s t6p wrestling programs found that it is definitely long on talent.
Senior Dos Allen captured the 145-pound championship Saturday night in leading the Panthers to a 10th place finish in the Daily News-Record wrestling tournament at R.E. Lee High School in Staunton. The R.E. Lee championship is considered one of the top wrestling meets in the state. The field of 12 teams is by invitation-only.
“It was nice for us to go, because the elite goes,” Rappahannock head wrestling coach Jim Herzog said. Allen showed that he not only could stay with some of Virginia’s best wrestlers but also could dominate the weight to run his record to 17-0. He is currently ranked No. 1 by mat.com. Fellow senior Alex Sharp (12-1) owns a fourthplace ranking in the state at 140 pounds. He finished third at the R.E. Lee tournament.
