one, and then they are off and running with some brainstorming about the idea. As the collection of thoughts and ideas starts to take shape on the blackboard and Reisler senses there is enough material for the song, they start writing the lyric for verse or chorus. By the time that section is done, they’ve discovered the music in the lyric and the whole class joins in singing the song. Reisler and his assistant write three songs a day with the kids. Reisler has now written over 600 songs with over 12,000 children nationwide.
While one might think that the songs are going to be simple kids’ songs about their pets or family, they are often quite sophisticated covering a range of subjects from Alzheimer’s to love songs, from subjects they are studying in school to a beautiful song about the state they live in, I Do Love Virginia.
