While ultimate decisions about Rappahannock County policies are made by the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors whose members represent the five magisterial districts, their decisions are often based on recommendations from the planning commission.

Flint Hill resident Charles W. Strittmatter, chairman; Amissville resident Raymond L. Brown, Sr. vice-chairman; Amissville resident Alvin Hemy, Sperryville resident Thomas Junk, Castleton resident Thomas Tepper, Washington resident Alexander Sharp who also serves on the Board of Zoning Appeals. Amissville resident Ronald Frazier sits on the Planning Commission and is also a member of the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors.
The Planning Commission of Rappahannock County meets once a month during the year unless there is no scheduled business to come before them.
2005 Highlights
. During 2005, the Planning Commission deliberated on the following items:
• The Planning Commission considered one request for rezoning, the property being in Flint Hill, Wakefield District, and recommended approval for its conditional conversion from “VR - Village Residential” to “VC - Village Commercial.”
The Board of Supervisors at their January 4 meeting denied this request.
• The Planning Commission considered two requests for Special Exceptions, one for a private sewage treatment facility for a new home, one for an expansion to an existing Residential Care Facility. The Commission recommended denial on the first application, and approval of the second, and the Board of Supervisors confirmed those recommendations in their review of the requests.
