the house acts as a limit on his plans to house large numbers of people at Blue Rock, because in Rappahannock County the number of lodging rooms is determined by the total free acreage of the parcel a building sits on. Mariea’s new home will lower that number for Harvey, putting a limit on the number of rooms he could add to the Blue Rock.
In the end, the Planning Commission voted to recommend Harvey's plans for the new house for approval to the Board of Supervisors, since a residential home on an agricultural property is an accepted use under the County’s Comprehensive plan.
“I’ve seen four houses up there that I hadn’t seen before. That area’s changing, and I think eveiyone will have to live with agricultural and houses together,” said the Planning Commission’s Thomas Junk.
At the end of the meeting, Phil Irwin of Flint Hill praised Alvin Henry who cast the only dissenting vote.
“You’re planning for the future. It’s important that you understand threats to the future,” said Irwin, addressing the entire Planning Commission.
