strings to The Theatre ^

The Quartet San Francisco is currently touring the East Cost and will play at the Theatre at Washington, Virginia in an unusual Sunday afternoon concert on February 5.

The Quartet is known for its wide ranging repertoire. A couple of years ago, the Quartet won a major international tango competition in New York City, and the concert here in Little Washington will include tangos, jazz (Dave Brubeck’s Blue Rondo a la Turk), and Mozart’s Divertimento in D Major among several other works.

Founded in 2001 by the jazz and classical violinist Jeremy Cohen, the Quartet San Francisco describes its mission as bringing “diverse, exciting, eclectic music to classically-oriented audiences in informal, lively and humorfilled programs that will leave concert goers with a whole new appreciation for what can be accomplished with eight hands and sixteen strings.”

In addition to Jeremy Cohen, the Quartet comprises Kayo Miki, violin, Emily Onderndonk, viola, and Joel Cohen, cello. Individually, they have impeccable classical music credentials, studying at the New England Conservatory, the Manhattan School of Mutsic, the Eastman School of Music, and elsewhere, and they perform, or formerly performed, with several major orchestras and chamber ensembles.

Tickets for the concert at the Theatre on Sunday, February 5 at 3 p.m. are $20 for adults and $5 for students 18 and under.
