old home place. Mom and Dad had lived in the tiny house “up on the hill,” until five kids were bom, then they bought this one from Granddaddy Lillard, and with all those ’ extra rooms, you know what happened, five more kids were bom. If they had stopped at nine, someone else would be writing this.
We moved from that house in 1960, to the center of Flint Hill, across from Bradford’s store. I had not been in that house in the middle of Pullentown for 45 years.' A lady was picking up sticks in the yard, blown down by the high winds. At Linda’s urging, I said hello and told her I used to live there. That was Kathryn Murray, and she was very nice and invited us in. I wasn’t sure I wanted to do that, but she insisted.
Never been gone
When I stepped up on the front porch, it was like I had never left that wonderful place of my childhood.
A lot had changed, but an awful lot was just like it was. The big ash tree we used to climb in the front yard is still there, and the maple tree that we couldn’t climb is still there. The walk from the front steps had been partially removed and the entrance through the stone wall at the front gate,
