The January 18 session of the Rappahannock County Planning Commission voted approval of Gary Harvey's plans to build a house on the property that currently houses the Blue Rock Inn.
The house is part of the deal Hafvey negotiated with former Blue Rock owner Jo Mariea, and will be her residence as she oversees the equestrian aspects of Blue Rock such as the polo field and horse bams. Although plans to build a similar house in that same location had been approved in 2004, the application had been allowed to expire arid the home was never built. Despite the previous application and the stated benign residential use, Harvey's application became controversial for the Commission when he announced that it was the first of several projects he planned for the Blue Rock property. Harvey revealed that he wants to turn a large home that he owns adjacent to the property into a Bed and Breakfast, purchase property Connecting the proposed B&B with the Blue Rock and construct a road between them, in the end creating a large complex for holding weddings.
