Allison Antony, of Washington, AnneAshleigh Lamma, of Flint Hill, and Devin Day, of Woodville,Senior Girl Scouts in Troop 590, have earned the Gold Award, the highest achievement given by the Girl Scouts of the USA.
Achieving the Gold Award takes true commitment and dedication. The Girl Scout Gold Award is earned by fulfilling requirements that recognize a Senior Girl Scout’s commitment to excellence as she develops leadership skills and personal values to meet present and future challenges in her life.
To earn the Gold Award, Antony, Lamma, and Day had to prove their leadership abilities by designing and carrying out a plan of activities that included community service, career exploration and specialized interest projects. They completed a special project to meet the requirements for 50-hours of volunteer community service.
For their Gold Award service project, Antony, Lamma, and Day organized and planned Rappahannock County’s 4-H Day Camp. They worked with Rappahannock’s 4H extension agent, Jenny Kapsa, and coordinated every aspect of the camp from class choices to snack options, afternoon activities, bus schedules, and counselor interviews using their prior experience as teen counselors to guide them.
Their goal was to design a camp that would entertain the campers while informing them about 4-H values. At the completion of the project, campers, adults, and peers all benefited from the experience and were excited about returning to camp next year.
Allison Antony is the daughter of Richard and Sandy Antony, of Washington. She will be graduating from Rappahannock'County High School and attending college this fall. She has been a Girl Scout for 12 years. Anne
