convicted of child
molestation

Samuel Marvin, 47, was found guilty Hiesday for sexually molesting a child, nearly a year after allegations were made about his behavior.
Marvin was arrested in April 2006, charged with one count of indecent liberties with a child and one charge of aggravated sexual assault and battery with a child under the age of 13.
The two-day trial was held at the Rappahannock Circuit Court; Judge Frank Hoss presided over the trial.
The jury stated that Marvin was guilty on both charges, and recommended a total sentence of 16 years.
Several friends of the victim’s mother sighed with relief and wept after the verdict was delivered by the jury consisting of eight women and four men. The jury deliberated details of the case for two hours; the sentencing deliberation lasted nearly an hour and a half. The maximum penalty for Marvin’s crimes could have been 25 years.
“I want to thank you for your time and I want you to know that you have given us a fair trial, you took time and reviewed the evidence and for that we thank you," said Public Defender Mark Williams after the verdict was read.
The 7-year-old child testified on her own behalf, speaking quietly and steadily about Marvin’s behavior. She said that Marvin had taken baths with her during which he had made her wash his “private area.” The child also testified that Marvin had fondled her genital region saying that it, “stung like a bee.”
The jury also heard testimony from friends of the victim’s mother, one of which alerted the mother of possible abuse. Their testimony reflected early signs of abuse as they recalled conversations they had in the past with the victim.
The Mother of the victim testified that she had alerted Social Services erf her suspicions in March 2006. An investigation by Social Services revealed enough evidence to report the case to the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office. Marvin was arrested in April 2006 and incarcerated in the Rappahannock Jail.
