Salary increase intact
The budget’s primary goal is to raise the salaries of all employees within the school system by 4.5 percent. No motion, however, was made to include a pay raise for the Rappahannock County Public School Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell, effectively making him the only employee of the school system not slated for a raise in the proposed budget. When asked about his salary, Chappell stated that he discussed his salary with the school board during last week’s closed session. “I am comfortable with the decision," Chappell said shortly.
Public hearing
The budget will now go before the board of supervisors prior to March 31. The board of supervisors will hold a public hearing for the School budget, which will allow citizens to comment further on the proposed budget. The meeting is scheduled for April 30.
