According to Luke, the evaluation will be used to determine whether or not special treatment is needed while the criminal is in prison or after he is released.
Defense Attorney Mark Williams delayed the trial last year after Marvin was unresponsive to efforts for his defense. Marvin was mentally evaluated and found to be competent to stand trial.
Sentencing
Sentencing for Marvin has been scheduled for July 30. Marvin is also facing an additional charge in Rappahannock County of conspiring with Virginia Cloud to alter or forge a vehicle title.
Luke said afterward that he was pleased with the jury’s verdict. During the trial, Luke thanked the jury for serving the court, admitting that it was a disturbing case. “These crimes spread out like the tentacles of an octopus,” said Luke to the jury prior to the sentencing phase, “They don’t just touch one life, they touch many lives; the child, families, friends, friendis children, schools and the greater community.”
