Czekaj also gave Rappahannock County a strong pitching performance. He scattered seven hits over five innings and struck out tow. Miller fanned three in tow innings of work.
Jenkins had the same thought about Gessner as he did about Russell in the game against Warren County. Gessner pitched brilliantly for six innings and a 6-0 lead.
“I kept thinking that all we needed was a ground ball to get out of the inning,” Jenkins said.
Rappahannock jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on a run-scoring single from Gessner and a two-run double from Miller. Gessner followed with a solo home run in the fourth for a 4-0 lead. Gessner homered twice this spring against Warren County.
The Panthers added two more runs in the fifth on Czekaj’s RBI single and Russell’s bunt.
“We cannot outplay teams for five or six innings,” Jenkins said. “They can have one or two good innings and beat us.”
Burke and Jessica Lee each hit a single.

Rappahannock’s next game is Saturday, when the Panthers will face Highland School in the final weekend of the Fauquier Bash. The first pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Fauquier High School in Warrenton.
