If you think you live far
away from the proposed power line route and therefore you have no need to worry about the poor folks who live near it, think again.
The data is clear that none of us will get any power directly from this power line, but all of us - even those that live on the far end of the county, will have higher rates because of it. This will directly affect your pocketbook.
The reason your power bill will go up is that someone has to pay for this line. Guess what? Allegheny, who services most of our power, often buys its electricity from Dominion. So when Dominion has to pay for building this line, they will charge Allegheny more money — and then they will raise your rates.
Another reason you should be concerned is that what is happening here basically takes away the hardearned money of all the people who live along this power line.
This occurs because your property is immediately devalued if this line is built on or in view of it.
Most of us have put a significant portion of our life savings and income into our houses, whether a small lot or a huge farm. If Dominion is allowed to push this line through, all you have to do is study the information on future plans for the building and expansion of power plants to realize that your property may be next.
How would you feel if suddenly your property went down in value 30 percent or more? Or worse, if you need to sell, and it takes five to 10 years to find a buyer? This happened to one of my neighbors.
One more fact that many people are not aware of is that the new power line is in addition to the one already there.
