Newsflash! Students from the Rappahannock County Public High School are bringing back to life “The Rapp-Up,” the RCPS school newspaper. The paper has laid dormant for 2-3 years, however, teacher Laurel Van Horn has begun teaching a class on print journalism, allowing the students to get involved with every level of production.
The newspaper project has been spearheaded by Nancy Herbert, a junior chosen to serve as the student editor. She has already compiled a list of stories as student reporters pound away at keyboards. Each student has been given a beat and during class time they huddle around computers, writing and researching their stories.
Assistant editor Katie Long has been helping Herbert copyedit and organize the submissions together with Kelly Harvell.
