About 40 Rappahannock citizens came to the Library on Tuesday afternoon to participate in a public forum for local business owners and citizens interested in supporting local business. A panel of small business people discussed the problems and opportunities in Rappahannock County, including the cyclical tourist industry upon which much of our local business thrives. The panel included, Barbara Adolfi, Cheri Woodard, Martha Hitt, Sandra Cartwright-Brown, and Eric Kvames.
County Administrator John McCarthy also attended the forum to answer questions regarding county matters as they affect business development. Members who joined the forum agreed that more could be done to promote their businesses as they discussed ways to increase awareness about thenproducts.
The forum was organized by Flint Hill resident Jim Gannon.
Summer Youth Conservation Corps
Shenandoah National Park is now accepting applications for its summer Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program. YCC provides gainful employment and an educational experience in the conservation of the park’s natural and cultural heritage. YCC enrollees work to maintain park trails, roads, buildings and campgrounds while learning about Shenandoah National Park.
This year’s YCC program runs for 8 weeks from June 18August 10, 2007.
Applicants for YCC crew member positions must be between the ages of 15 and 18 during the enrollment period. YCC enrollees work 40 hours per week and earn minimum wage.
Applications may be obtained from the following Wn] high school guidance offices: Page County, Luray, Spotswood, Rappahannock County, William Monroe (Greene County), and Madison County or from the Personnel Office at Shenandoah National Park.
Completed applications should be mailed to YCC Program Coordinator, Shenandoah National Park, 3655 US Hwy 211 East, Luray, VA 22835.
Applications must be postmarked by April 20, 2007.
