Rappahannock County School board members voted to increase funding for NextStep by $5,000 during their last work session meeting concerning the school budget. The board had originally voted to cut the NextStep funding by $5,000. The total budget for the successful college and career access program at the high school, will receive a total amount of $15,000 in this years budget. A motion was made to restore the superintendents proposed increase after the board discussed canceling a trip to a teachers conference in Oxford, England. The school usually teams with Headwaters to send a few teachers to the conference. Aline Johnson made the motion to restore the funding and suggested that Dr. Chappell reduce the professional development funds by $5,000 to fund the increase. “I think it’s a tremendous show of support for the success of the program,” said NextStep director Miranda Hope after the meeting adding, “I appreciate the vote of confidence in the work that we are doing.”
