How many teachers are there in the RCPS?
FACT: In the current year 2006-2007 at RCES there are 48 teachers; at RCHS there are 36 full-time and 5 part-time teachers. Including the parttime teachers there are’ 86.5 full-time -equivalent (FTE) teachers. There are also three guidance counselors that the State counts as teachers. What is the pupil-teacher ratio in the RCPS?
FACT The State calculates the pupil-teacher ratio after the end of each school year because they use the "year-end membership" of students to make the calculation. The most recent State calculation is for the 2004-05 school year. RCPS Pupil-teacher Ratio for grades K-7 was 11.8. The Pupil-teacher Ratio for grades 8-12 was 10.4 The state’s calculation includes as "teachers" some personnel who do not have classroom groups assigned. For example, the State includes librarians and guidance counselors in the formula. The State also includes in the calculation Special Education Teachers and teachers of "electives," some of whom have smaller class sizes.
