It took 31 years for someone to break Fred Frye’s long-jump record at Rappahannock County High School. But now Irving Smith has done it for the second time in eight days.
Smith’s leap of 22 feet, 2 inches on Saturday at the Group A state track-and-field meet topped his previous best of 21 feet, 9 3/4 inches, which he achieved at the regional meet on May 25.
